I Can Be Reverent Sharing Time

This sharing time is one that is nice to use if a reminder for reverence is needed in Primary. It is a game board that has various spaces that the marker advances. Each time the marker lands on OR passes a chapel, a situation is drawn that may occur at church. The children decide if the act is reverent or not reverent. If it is reverent, the child places the situation card in the happy chapel and if it is not something they should be doing at church then it goes in the sad chapel.  The Primary tries and get more happy chapels than sad chapels before sharing time runs out. Tally on chalkboard.

The gameboard squares are cut from construction paper and I have typed on some, "move to the next chapel" spaces to speed up time and get as many questions answered (little chapels that are randomly placed on the path. * not the slightly larger ones, those are just decoration to fill up the board!) The link for the clipart of the little chapels, the church starting space and the decorative chapels is found on this:

The happy and sad chapels clipart came from http://www.mormonshare.com/taxonomy/term/2423/lds_clipart and was colored with markers and glued to a piece of light blue and green construction paper. The chapel was edited and a smile/frown face from google image was pasted over the top of the chapel before printing. There is a slit in the middle of the happy/sad chapel and a ziploc bag is taped to the back to hold the cards as they are inserted into the correct chapel.

Reverence Situations for the chapel cards:
Jaime wiggled her feet during the sacrament.
Todd folded his arms and bowed his head when the prayer was said.
Kurt ran down the hall after his Sunday School lesson ended
Sally whispered when she entered the chapel.
Joel listened with his ears as the prayer was said.
Christian sang the songs sweetly during Singing time in Primary.
Susie wasn’t listening during the lesson, but was talking to her friend.
Aaron can’t hear the Primary teacher because his neighbor was noisy. What could he do?
Joseph helped a Sunbeam be reverent during Primary.
Greg brought a toy to church and played with it during class time.
Robert yelled down the church hall to his friend.
Hilary drew on the hymn book during Sacrament meeting.
Jeni shook hands with the Bishop as she entered the chapel.
Brandon thought of Jesus as he took the sacrament.
Scott threw his trash in the foyer of the church.
Katie put her gum underneath her chair when she was done chewing it.
Angela saw a candy wrapper in the chapel, picked it up and threw it away.
John talked when the class prayer was said.
Walter shouted the hymn being sung during sacrament meeting.

Victoria smiled at her friend to say hi in Primary, but didn't yell at her.
Teddy tried to see how quiet his feet could be in the halls.
Nancy thought about the stories of Jesus during the Sacrament.
Paula thought about her upcoming birthday party during the sacrament.
Riley stomped his feet in the church halls.
Bobby ripped a reminder down off the ward bulletin board.
Michael laughed at another boy when he didn’t know the answer in Primary.
Elizabeth listened quietly as the church choir sang the intermediate hymn.
Name one thing that you can do that is not reverent in the chapel building?

  2. What are on the spaces inbetween the chapels on the game board?

  3. Oh yes, sorry! They have " move ahead 1", "move ahead 2","whisper I can be reverent", "show a reverent behavior", " move to the next chapel" and "pick a chapel card". Just ways to move quicker across the game board and get more reverent situations read. They are just written on a series of text boxes and cut out. The game is just the gimmick or vehicle to motivate, instill and remind the children to be reverent. This is stuff they know, but sometimes a gameboard can make the content stick.

  5. Yes, I had a big die with spaces "move ahead 2", "move to the next chapel", "move to the next chapel", " move ahead 1", "move ahead 3", "move ahead 4". I did this game last week and it was really successful and the kids loved it and got the point to be reverent at church!

  8. Thank you so much! This will be perfect for the Reverence Theme on the 3rd week this month. Last month I used the one for the Word of Wisdom with the Olympic Rings and Hurdles. I Also read parts of the Word Wisdom out of D&C 89 and also parts of D&C 88. Instead of hurdles on a board and the hurdler I used boxes to make mini hurdles with each topic in front of the hurdles for the children to step over. The children where kept busy and they listened well. Thank you again!
