Jesus Taught Me the Right Way to Live/Follow His Example Sharing time

March 2013 Week 1 sharing time idea
This is actually a repurposed dryer(from Modest Molly ST), but don't think any kid will notice. The dryer is made from a file/bankers box covered in white butcher paper and the lid is taped to the back of the box. a cut posterboard was used for the control panel. The dial control panel is from http://www.the-appliance-clinic.com/images/dryer-control.gif and the center dial was cut out and replaced/glued to a cut white plastic cup. A the dial was then glued onto the cup to resemble a dial. Hope that isn't confusing! |
I have a special washing machine here. Has anyone ever helped with the laundry before? When you wash clothes in a washing machine, you must follow exact instructions or your clothes may get ruined. You may have had your mom to be an example for you to show you which clothes go in which load. If you put a red sock(show a red sock) in with your white clothes in hot water, all your white clothes will turn pink. In our life, we must follow exact instructions from Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. If we don’t follow Jesus’ example precisely, we won’t be pure. We don’t want red sin to enter us and turn our pure white to pink.
So today you are going to help me with a special load of laundry. You will pull a piece of clothing out of the washer and it will have a scripture on it. Then we must match the scripture with the right picture that is hanging out to dry. Each scripture and picture match helps remind us of some way that Jesus taught us how to live and how we can follow Jesus. After we match the picture, we will have someone share a way they can follow Jesus' example in that way and hang the clothing on the line on the side of the Primary room.
The twine is threaded through the holes of the clothespins and each clothes pin has a magnet on the back of them |
Yes, you may remember some of Modest Molly's clothes, haha!!! |
Pictures and matching scriptures for the back of the clothing-
(On back of a piece of clothing) 2 Nephi 31:12
"And also, the voice of the Son came unto me, saying: He that is baptized in my name, to him will the Father give the Holy Ghost, like unto me; wherefore, follow me, and do the things which ye have seen me do."
How can choose the right and keep the Holy Ghost dwelling in us?
(Have a child hang up clothing on the line to dry)
(On back of a piece of clothing)
Luke 22:19
"And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me."
Jesus Christ gave the sacrament to his disciples and told them to remember Jesus. We must follow the example of Jesus, take the sacrament and remember all that Jesus did for us.
How can we think about Jesus during the sacrament? (Have a child hang clothing on the line)

John 13: 5, 14
"After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded."

We can follow the example of Jesus by doing good acts of service. Maybe we won’t be washing someone’s feet, but we can do things for others to help them.
What is a way that we can do something kind for someone else?(have a child hang up the clothing on the line to dry)

Matthew 4:19

(on back of picture)
The disciples of Jesus dropped their nets immediately to follow Jesus and His example. Do we drop everything in our lives and follow the example of Jesus? Or do we only drop our nets if it is convenient at the time? Do we tell others around us to follow Jesus too and can others tell that our “clothes” are different and see Christ in our appearance?
Name a way that you can make your self different from the world and set a good example for others to follow? (Have child put clothing on line to dry)
(On back of a piece of clothing)
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, ye must watch and pray always, lest ye be tempted by the devil, and ye be led away captive by him."

We can follow the example of Jesus by loving others around us. Our neighbors, friends, enemies (those that don’t like us) and we should love them as Jesus loves us.

Luke 23:33-34

Even when Jesus was being killed, he forgave those that hurt Him. Can we follow Jesus’ example and forgive those that do wrong things to us. They are nothing compared to what some did to the Savior.
How can we forgive someone like Jesus?

In closing, (written on back of Cheer detergent bottle) D&C 78:18…"be of good cheer, (Hold Cheer detergent up) for I will lead you along. The kingdom is yours and the blessings thereof are yours, and the riches of eternity are yours." I know that Jesus is always with you, wants you to be happy and have eternal life. If we follow His example, we will be able to make it back to Him. In the name of Jesus Christ amen.

DeleteVery cute- I just pinned the scriptures onto the back of large doll clothes, as my 10 year old daughter suggested rather than paper. Quick , easy and cute!

The clothes were just cut out of construction paper. Sorry I don't have a pattern for them:( Some are actually recycled from a modesty sharing time. Someone want to "project runway" and create a PDF???!!!!

ReplyDeleteI made the washer today and used an old box that a pressure cooker came in that I recently bought. It has a flap type lid that works perfectly! I also used the black screw on caps from powerade bottles for the "knobs" (you could easily use milk gallon lids... vinegar lids... look around there are so many possibilities) I then drilled a hole and put a screw through the middle and that's how I attached it to the cardboard. Now it really turns and can be used as a "Real" washer for any little ones you have to play with! I can't keep my 3 yr old away from it now! Great Idea! Thanks for posting... Love it! :)
ReplyDeleteWowww qué excelente idea!!!! me encantó, la aplicaré para mis niños de la primaria! MUCHAS GRACIAS :D

ReplyDeleteI tried to email you but the email listed did not work. Is there another way to get a copy of the clothes?
DeleteThe file has been added to www.sugardoodle.net/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=8095&Itemid=200134
DeleteI always find myself putting things for sharing time together Saturday night, so instead of making the washer, I just used a mesh laundry bag and pinned the scriptures to my baby's clothing - thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Thanks for making it so easy to throw together a Sharing Time lesson at the end of a busy week.
ReplyDeleteI didn't have a lot of time to prepare this, so I changed it up a little. I used a laundry basket instead of the washer (I had no time to make the washer!) and my daughters clothes (8yrs old). I was worried the magnet wouldn't hold it, but the package of magnets I got had a lot... so I put two on the back of the clothespins. I LOVE this blog and I use it every time its my turn. Thanks for your cute ideas, they really help me.
ReplyDeleteSo glad I found your sight! Wonderful idea and so much fun. I think the kids love things like this! Can't wait to come back for more. :)
ReplyDeleteI have what may be a dumb question...Did you leave the pictures on the chalk board as is, or did you hang the "laundry" with each picture on the chalk board? Or did you have two separate clothes lines going on? Darling idea - thank you!
ReplyDeleteI believe I just put the pictures back on the chalkboard or I may have even just put the pictures on the nearby table after discussing each. I definitely didn't try to hang both pictures and clothes together. I can foresee all kinds of things going wrong with that, haha! Feel free to adjust my lessons anytime to fit the needs of your primary:)
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea.... Thank you for sharing with us all your ideas all your love for the childrens.....
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU THANK YOU so much for sharing your creativity and ideas!!! I love this sharing time and you have made it so easy to copy it! Thank you for all your help :)
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you posted this a while ago! I was stumped for sharing time tomorrow and everything I was finding sounding boring to me so I knew the kids would find it boring as well.
