Father in Heaven loves you and has given you many blessings. He asks you to return to Him one tenth of all you earn. The one tenth you give to the Lord is called tithing. Tithing is used to build up Heavenly Father’s kingdom on the earth. President Hinckley learned this helpful poem as a boy,
So if you have 10 dollars, you give a dollar, if you have a dollar, you give ten cents. If you have a dime, you give the Lord one penny.
Has anyone seen one of these?(Show tithing envelope) When you pay your tithing, you should fill out the slip, place the money in the envelope, seal it, print your name on the front of the envelope, and give it to the bishop or one of his counselors. If we pay our tithing faithfully, we will be blessed. In Malachi 3:10 it reads, Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
We are going to play a
game about tithing to discover how tithing is used to bless others, and learn
what some of the great blessings are that we can receive from paying tithing. We will roll a die and if we land on a bill from
another country we will answer a question about tithing. If we land on a
wallet, we will discover one way tithing is used to bless others and figure out
how much tithing should be given, and if we roll a “Window of Heaven” we will
pick a window of heaven and discover a way that we are blessed when we pay our
tithing.

ReplyDeleteYeah, it may have some timing issues. I did this lesson in a Primary Sunday school class. I adjusted it by not rolling the die midway thru and jumping to the spaces. I even think I may have picked two windows or three windows of heaven at the same time. And there are only three tithing money calculations. So by the time you have done three, the kids won't have to figure it out because they will have already done it. And you could also pick two wallets at the same time or even put more than one "tithing helps" in the wallets. You may not finish the entire game board, I am one that likes to overplan rather than have time left. The opening could be shortened as well. Make adjustments as you see fit for your primary.

ReplyDeleteI always test my lesson out at FHE! My kids are the guinea pigs and there has been times(the modesty lesson, haha!!!) that I have COMPLETELY rewritten the lesson based on the experience. I am not teaching this tithing lesson for sharing time, as many lessons that I post, so hopefully people can rework what DOESN'T work so that it is effective on Sunday:)

ReplyDeleteDo you mind me asking how you did the windows. Did you laminate first then cut around the window to make it open? Sorry, just trying to figure out how you made that work...and look good:)
ReplyDeleteI did this the hardest way possible, haha! I cut each window out and then laminated the entire window to create "glass" and then cut around the edges and down middle to make it open. A simpler way may be to cut four windows out of brown construction paper and laminate it or attach Saran wrap to the back and cut around edges and middle.

I am sure this is too late to help anyone now, but I used an exacto knife to cut out the 'window glass' panels and then placed the entire window (no other cuts) inside a plastic sheet protector at the bottom corner. Then I cut the sheet protector to fit the window and taped the top closed. I left the side open and slid the "Blessing" label inside the plastic sleeve behind the window so that it could be seen behind the panels. When it was time to open the window I slid the "Blessing" label out, turned it around to see the blessing then slide it back inside the sleeve, only this time in front of the window so that it was clearly visible. Maybe someone will find this useful!! Sorry for the Anonymous post, but I didn't have time to create an account. Will do so later. Carolyn Wheeler

ReplyDeleteDarcee, I did your lesson last Sunday and it was awesome. The kids loved it. Junior Primary had to be sped up a bit, but it was perfect for Senior. I let the kids take the wallets back to their seats to figure out the tithing and that helped move things along. I use your ideas every chance I get. THANK YOU SO MUCH for the time and thought you put in to each one. I love your ideas and approach to making learning visual and fun. Thanks again!!
