Keeping Minds Clean Sharing Time

Sharing time- Keeping your mind clean-Stock your cupboards

November 2013 Week 1- I am Thankful for My Body and Know That it is a Temple
taken from a part of Thomas S. Monson's talk

Constant Truths for Changing Times

You can find the "can labels" at my skydrive labeled, "Stock your Cupboards food labels" and cut to size here:
**If there is someone that wants to whip some up that possesses the computer skills I desperately lack, PLEASE DO SO! AND.. post it on Sugardoodle for all to utilize. I love you all:)

President Monson gave a talk before he was the prophet in April 2005 that helps us understands what we and our families need to do to our minds and bodies before Jesus comes and resurrects them. All we can really take with us when we die is our body and mind. - Pres. Monson said this in this session of General Conference. “Your mind is a cupboard- you stock the shelves. Make certain that our shelves and the shelves of our family members will provide safety to our souls and enable us to return to our Father in Heaven.” (Have child open paper cupboard and read quote inside) So this cupboard(point to large cupboard, or could use a decorated cardboard box, or back of the podium) is like our mind. We have to fill it with good things to return back to our Heavenly Father. Look at our cupboard. (Have child open it) It’s bare. That’s not good for our mind to empty!
Let’s go shopping and fill it with the things that President Monson said we need our minds and bodies to have to be ready for the resurrection.

You are going to help us get the things we need at the Heavenly Grocery, keep in mind we don’t shop on Sunday. We will select a child from Primary to come and pick a can and pull price tag off and learn about what we need to fill our minds with to help reach our goal to the temple and back to Jesus and Heavenly Father. (Then have the child give the bagged item to someone to put away in the cupboard. Have then state one way they can stock their mind/make their body do with that item in their life. example: How can you show kindness in your family? How can you be a good example to your friends and family, Name one thing you have faith in, How can you help your mind become temple worthy, etc. Continue until all items are in cupboard.)

(Price tag information to supplement President Monson's points)

Seeds, Mustard seeds inside a can labeled Faith- Faith- Pres. Monson said we need to fill our minds with faith. What is it? To believe in things even though we haven’t seen them. We believe that Jesus was resurrected even though we didn’t actually see the event. Faith is compared to a seed in the book of Mormon by Alma. If we plant the seed and take care of it by giving it water and sunlight, it will grow. We can plant our belief and do things like read our scriptures and pray, go to church(that’s our water and sunlight) and our faith will grow and we will know that the church is true. (Could add mustard seed analogy, Matthew 17:20 "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.")

(Have a child bag the "Faith" can and give it to a Primary child that can think of a way to fill his/her mind and body with faith. Than have the child stock the shelf with the can.)

Can with prayer label- Prayer- Pres Monson said we need to have prayer in our minds. 3 Nephi 18:19 says, "Therefore ye must always pray unto the Father in my name;" We can talk to our Heavenly Father and he will answer our problems and give us peace. Why is this jar so big? Our bodies need to be praying morning, night, at mealtimes, and have a prayer in our heart always.

(Have a child bag the "Prayer" can and give it to a Primary child that can think of a way to fill his/her mind with prayer or help his/her body pray. Than have the child stock the shelf with the can.)

Can-Love- This can represents the Love we are supposed to have in our minds and for our own bodies. We should love our bodies by putting good, nourishing food into it, like wholesome grains, fruits and vegetables and give our bodies adequate sleep. This jar is so big because we need a TON of love. We need to love our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and all people, right? And think of ways that we can help our bodies show love to others. We must not fill our minds with bad thoughts about others, just like we wouldn't want bad food to be in our cupboard to eat!

(Have a child bag the "Love" can and give it to a Primary child that can think of a way to fill his/her mind with love or help his/her body love others. Than have the child stock the shelf with the can.)

Cake box with obedience label- Obedience Pres. Monson said we need to be obedient. If we follow all the directions on this cake recipe on the back, will we get a cake? Yeah! We need to obey all of the Lord’s instructions that he gives us for our reward. (From Sharing Time manual "I Know the Scriptures are True", week 4, p. 17) "We need to OBEY Him by "reading, watching, and listening to wholesome things to keep our minds clean." (Put your hands like a book for reading, point to your eye for watching, cup your ear for listening, and point to forehead for wholesome things.) We need to be obedient and avoid putting harmful substances like alcohol, cigarettes into our bodies that might cloud our minds from Heavenly Father's instructions. But if we obey, we will get a reward even better than cake!

(Have a child bag the "Obedience cake box" and give it to a Primary child that can think of a way to fill his/her mind with obedience or help his/her body be obedient. Than have the child stock the shelf with the cake box.)

Oil- Service. Pres. Monson said we need to serve other people. Serve our family and help younger siblings to serve and share. Do you remember the story of the widow and her son and the prophet Elijah? The widow and her son had no food in their cupboards except for a little meal and oil to make bread. They were going to make what was left (like a roll) and then they were going to die. The prophet Elijah asked them to serve him the last of their bread. He promised that if they did this that they would have enough meal and oil to feed themselves for a long time. It must have been hard for the mom to give up her son’s food for someone else. But she did it and the Lord blessed them with more meal and oil. That story is in 1 Kings in the Bible if you want to read that actual account. Service is very important.

(Have a child bag the "Service" oil and give it to a Primary child that can think of a way to fill his/her mind with service or help his/her body serve others. Than have the child stock the shelf with the oil.)

Can with example label- Example- We must fill our minds with ways to be an example to our family and to everyone. To do things that would make others want to be like you. This means telling a friend that you don't watch a particular show on tv, see a movie with inappropriate content, read a magazine that wouldn't be pleasing to the Lord, listen to a bad song, or play a certain video game.(Can do the actions again from the sharing time manual) It takes a lot of courage to stand for the right, but you do receive blessings for doing so.

(Have a child bag the "Example" can and give it to a Primary child that can think of a way to fill his/her mind with ways to be a good example or help his/her body be a good example to others. Than have the child stock the shelf with the can.)

Can small sliced olive cans- Kindness- Pres. Monson said that we need to fill our minds with way to be kind one to another. These cans are little because even the small acts of kindness can make a big difference. We will feel the Savior's love as we do little kind acts for someone.

(Have a child bag the "Kindness" cans and give it to a Primary child that can think of a way to fill his/her mind with kindness or help his/her body be kind. Than have the child stock the shelf with the cans.)

Sugar- Temple worthy- We need to be temple worthy and help our family do so. We need to be preparing our selves to go to the temple and then when we get there remain worthy. Just like this sugar is sweet, going to the temple is even sweeter. Keeping our minds filled with sweet things help us be ready to go to the temple. Remember that our bodies are temples and always keep them clean and pure, like the sugar.

(Have a child bag the "Temple Worthy" can and give it to a Primary child that can think of ways to help his/her mind and body become temple worthy. Than have the child stock the shelf with the can.)

Our cupboard is starting to look better isn’t? We need to keep stocking out shelves and making sure they have these things always in our minds. We should never run out of love, obedience, and kindness, and the other things Pres. Monson said. There is always service to be done and prayers to be said. We hope we all will go home and see what we need to stock in our shelves or what our mind and bodies need to have to keep them clean and pure. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
