Jesus Christ is the Perfect example for me sharing time

Jesus Christ is the Perfect Example for Me Sharing Time- April 2012 week 1
Hands were taken from http://www.trahc.net/outline.JPG  and then enlarged on 9 sheets of paper and printed off on beige construction paper. The Christ picture(Primary 1-1) was clipped from a Friend magazine and the children of a random primary were also clipped from the Friend"Friends in the News" section?
The picture in the center is Greg Olsen's "I Feel my Savior's love"
Sing “Do As I’m Doing” (CS, 276), and ask the children to follow you as you do several simple actions, and have the children follow you while singing. We learn many things by following the example of others. Read the wordstrip on the board, “Jesus is the perfect example for me.” Jesus Christ was the only person who has lived on the earth who has set the perfect example for us to follow. Have the children read the sentence together. Jesus Christ used His hands his whole life to show how we should live. How can we use our hands(point to the hand on the board with the children on it) to become like those perfect hands of Jesus?(point to the hand with the picture of Jesus on it) We will discover a few ways we can do that today. We will break up into four groups. Each group will get two pictures. Your teachers will help you learn about the pictures. Then discuss ways Jesus used his hands in the Christ picture and what ways we can use ours like his today using the other picture. Then we will share with each other what we learned. *For Senior primary- You will also be given a mirror. After discussing the pictures, if you will write a few words on the mirror that remind you of the Jesus Christ. There is a list to help you think, if needed.
Love pictures= to Sunbeams and CTR 4,  CTR 7
Prayer pictures=to CTR 5A, CTR 8 and Valiant 9
Baptism pictures=CTR 5B, Valiant 10/11 boys
Forgive and Save pictures=CTR 6, Valiant 10/11 girls

Spend about 5-6 minutes letting the groups talk and then have the children put the “Christ” picture next to the Christ hand and the “us” picture next to the hand that represents us.
**SENIOR PRIMARY- Give each group a mirror also and have them look at the list of words that describe Jesus using ideas from the pictures and write some words on the mirror. Put the mirrors back on the board.

Junior: Have the children share a couple of thoughts about their pictures and ways that Jesus used his hands to show a perfect example.
Part 2- Sing a song("I Have Two Little Hands" CS 272 as a possibility or "I'm Trying to Be like Jesus" CS 78) and pass around a mirror and when the music stops, the children holding the mirror will put their hand on the mirror and say a way that they can make their hand like Jesus or say "I will make my hands like Jesus".
Senior- Have each group share a thought or two about their two pictures and put the Jesus picture on the Jesus hand side of the board and the “today” picture on the “our” hand side of the board.
Part 2- Pass the mirrors while singing a song and when the music stops, have the children put their hand on the mirror with all the words and pick one and say, “My hands will or will be___________ like Jesus.”
Found at the dollar store(locker mirrors) and put some stickers on them.

Pictures given to each group-

Teacher helps, if needed, for the group discussion. I personally don't like to put teachers on the spot to teach children a concept that they may feel unprepared to do. So I usually prepare something that can be read to the children, but tell the teachers they can teach by the spirit.
GROUP 1
Forgive and Save- (picture of Jesus on the cross http://mormonchurch.com/files/2009/06/Crucifixion-Christ-Cross-Mormon1.jpg, small Christ atonement picture in corner(cut from the Ensign) and picture of girl taking sacrament)
(on back of Christ on the cross picture)
Jesus Christ bled from every pore of His hands so that we may be saved
from the things we do wrong. Our Redeemer took upon Himself all the sins,
pains, and sicknesses of all who have ever lived and will ever live
(see Alma 7:11–12). He knows our trials by firsthand experience.
Many Jews followed when the soldiers took Jesus to a hill near Jerusalem
to crucify Him. They made Him carry His own cross, then they laid Him on
it, nailed His hands and His feet to the cross, and lifted it up.
He set the perfect example of forgiveness when He was on the cross.
Referring to the Roman soldiers who had crucified Him, He prayed,
 ”Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do“ (Luke 23:34;
True to the Faith (2004), 70-72
So even when His hands were nailed to the cross, he was forgiving
to all and was willing to do whatever was needed to save us.
He can comfort us when we are sad or have a hard time in our life.
(Show picture of taking sacrament-) from Nursery picture packet http://www.ldsclipart.com/clipart?psmash-gallery=71&bwbps_page_71=2
(On back of the taking sacrament picture)
We use our hands to take the sacrament each week to remind us what he was willing to do
with His hands for us. What can we do to forgive someone that has wronged
 us?
GROUP 2
Love (Show picture of Jesus with arm around child) http://www.ldsclipart.com/clipart/jesus-christ
(on back of Jesus with arm around child picture)
While the Savior was with His disciples, some people
wanted Him to bless their children. The disciples told the
people to not bring their children to Jesus. (Mark 10:13)
Jesus Christ loves children and scolded the disciples for
trying to send them away. He told the disciples to let the
children come to Him.Mark 10:16 says, And he took them
up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
Even when Jesus had hands that were tired, he never stopped
using them to show love. The life of Jesus was an example of love.
Not only did He teach men to love our Heavenly Father and each other,
but He was always a perfect example of what He taught. Taken from http://lds.org/friend/1974/02/loving-friends?lang=eng&query=Jesus
(Written on back of Girl hugging dad picture)
“Love one another, as I have loved you.” (John 15:12.)
How can we use our hands to show love
like Jesus did to others around us?

GROUP 3
Prayer- (Show picture of Jesus praying) Ensign April 2009, p.46 (yes, I realize that this is a picture of the atonement, but there was no picture of Jesus teaching the disciples to pray). http://www.lds.org/bc/content/ldsorg/content/images/atonement-480x270-CU050406-006alt2.jpg

(On back of Jesus praying picture)
Jesus taught many important things to His disciples on the hillside. One thing he taught His disciples was how to pray to Heavenly Father. He used his hands in prayer.
Then Jesus told His followers not to be like people who loudly pray in public only so other people can see them. Quietly go in your room, He said. Shut the door, and then pray to your Father in Heaven. Jesus gave the people a pattern for how to pray. He showed how to begin in Heavenly Father’s name. He said He wanted everything to happen just the way Heavenly Father wants it to, just as it is in heaven. In His prayer, the Lord asked Heavenly Father to provide food for us to eat. He asked Heavenly Father to forgive us, as we forgive others. He showed people how to pray that they would not be led into temptation by evil things. Jesus gave glory to His Father in Heaven and closed His prayer with the word amen. Jesus taught the people, “Ask of God; ask, and it shall be given you.”
(Show picture of child praying-) Primary picture 1-9    We can use our hands to pray to the same Heavenly Father that Jesus prayed to while He was on the earth. We can also pray, not just  because people are watching us. Follow the pattern of praying by saying Dear Heavenly Father, thank Him for things we have, ask for things we need and close with in the name of Jesus Christ, amen. What or when can we pray to Heavenly Father?
GROUP 4
Baptism-
(On back of Jesus Christ picture)
At the beginning of Jesus Christ’s ministry, He traveled from Galilee to the Jordan River. John the Baptist was there preaching and baptizing the people. Jesus went to John and asked to be baptized. John did not want to do it, because he thought that Jesus should baptize him. He asked Jesus why He needed to be baptized. The Savior explained that He needed to be baptized to be obedient to the commandments of Heavenly Father.
Jesus Christ set the example for us to be baptized. See His hands in this picture as he is baptized by the hands of John the Baptist? He has told us, “Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God” (John 3:5).

(On back of Child being baptized picture)
This girl's using her hands to be baptized in the same way Jesus was. When we are baptized, we make a covenant, or promise, to Heavenly Father to:
“come into the fold of God”(become a member of His church)
“be called His people”(take upon the name of Christ)
“be willing to bear one another’s burdens”
“comfort those that stand in need of comfort”(help others)
“stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places(testify of Christ and set a good example)
“serve Him and keep His commandments”
Words to help the Senior Primary write on the mirrors to describe the Savior’s hands. Give a copy of the list to each teacher’s group-

Jesus Taught me the Right Way to live/ Follow His example Sharing time

Jesus Taught Me the Right Way to Live/Follow His Example Sharing time
March 2013 Week 1 sharing time idea
This is actually a repurposed dryer(from Modest Molly ST), but don't think any
kid will notice. The dryer is made from a file/bankers box covered in white butcher
paper and the lid is taped to the back of the box. a cut posterboard was
used for the control panel. The dial control panel is from
http://www.the-appliance-clinic.com/images/dryer-control.gif and the center dial was cut out
and replaced/glued to a cut white plastic cup. A the dial was then glued onto
the cup to resemble a dial. Hope that isn't confusing!

I have a special washing machine here. Has anyone ever helped with the laundry before? When you wash clothes in a washing machine, you must follow exact instructions or your clothes may get ruined. You may have had your mom to be an example for you to show you which clothes go in which load. If you put a red sock(show a red sock) in with your white clothes in hot water, all your white clothes will turn pink. In our life, we must follow exact instructions from Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. If we don’t follow Jesus’ example precisely, we won’t be pure. We don’t want red sin to enter us and turn our pure white to pink.

So today you are going to help me with a special load of laundry. You will pull a piece of clothing out of the washer and it will have a scripture on it. Then we must match the scripture with the right picture that is hanging out to dry. Each scripture and picture match helps remind us of some way that Jesus taught us how to live and how we can follow Jesus. After we match the picture, we will have someone share a way they can follow Jesus' example in that way and hang the clothing on the line on the side of the Primary room.

The twine is threaded through the holes of the clothespins and each clothes pin
has a magnet on the back of them

Yes, you may remember some of Modest Molly's clothes, haha!!!

Pictures and matching scriptures for the back of the clothing-

(On back of a piece of clothing) 2 Nephi 31:12

"And also, the voice of the Son came unto me, saying: He that is baptized in my name, to him will the Father give the Holy Ghost, like unto me; wherefore, follow me, and do the things which ye have seen me do."

Jesus Christ’s baptism picture Primary 1-18

(On back of picture) We need to follow the example of Jesus and be baptized, so we can have the gift of the Holy Ghost. Then choose the right each day so that we may continue to have the Holy Ghost help us decide right from wrong.
How can choose the right and keep the Holy Ghost dwelling in us?
(Have a child hang up clothing on the line to dry)

(On back of a piece of clothing)
Luke 22:19

"And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me."

Picture of Jesus Christ breaking bread/sacrament- Primary 2-67 or

Jesus Christ gave the sacrament to his disciples and told them to remember Jesus. We must follow the example of Jesus, take the sacrament and remember all that Jesus did for us.
How can we think about Jesus during the sacrament? (Have a child hang clothing on the line)

(On back of piece of clothing)
John 13: 5, 14

"After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded."

"If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet."

Picture of Jesus Christ washing the feet - Primary 2-60

(On back of picture)
We can follow the example of Jesus by doing good acts of service. Maybe we won’t be washing someone’s feet, but we can do things for others to help them.
What is a way that we can do something kind for someone else?(have a child hang up the clothing on the line to dry)

(On back of piece of clothing)

Matthew 4:19

"And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."

Picture of Jesus calling the Disciples-Primary 2-24 or http://www.dst-corp.com/james/PaintingsOfJesus/Jesus07.jpg

(on back of picture)

The disciples of Jesus dropped their nets immediately to follow Jesus and His example. Do we drop everything in our lives and follow the example of Jesus? Or do we only drop our nets if it is convenient at the time? Do we tell others around us to follow Jesus too and can others tell that our “clothes” are different and see Christ in our appearance?
Name a way that you can make your self different from the world and set a good example for others to follow? (Have child put clothing on line to dry)

(On back of a piece of clothing)
 3 Nephi 18:15, 19

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, ye must watch and pray always, lest ye be tempted by the devil, and ye be led away captive by him."

"Therefore ye must always pray unto the Father in my name;"

On the back of picture of Jesus praying in Garden of Gethsemene- Primary 2-52 or http://jesus.christ.org/files/2011/12/mormon-Gethsemene2.jpg

Jesus prayed to His Heavenly Father always. We can follow the example of Jesus and pray when we need help or comfort. I remember that President Monson shared in General Conference (October 2011 General Conference "Stand in Holy Places" by President Thomas S. Monson) when as a little boy they didn't have a washer so they had to send their laundry out to be cleaned. He earned a 5 dollar bill and he had forgotten to take it out of his pocket of jeans before they were sent. President Monson prayed that his money would be in that pocket when the jeans returned and the money was in his pocket when he got the jeans back. He prayed in gratitute for Heavenly Father for answering his prayer. We can say thank you to Heavenly Father, pray if we accidently get a red sock in the wash and make a mistake. Remember the scripture-Isaiah 1: 18 …though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. Christ can fix any wash and make it white again. His atonement can make us clean and save us.

What is something you can pray for and follow the example of Jesus? Let a child hang the clothing on the line to dry.

(On back of piece of clothing)
John 15:12

"This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you."

(On back of picture)
We can follow the example of Jesus by loving others around us. Our neighbors, friends, enemies (those that don’t like us) and we should love them as Jesus loves us.

How can you love someone around you like Jesus? Let child hang the clothing on the line to dry

(On back of a piece of clothing)
Luke 23:33-34

"And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left."

"Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."

picture of Christ Crucified- Gospel Art kit 230 or- http://www.lds.org/images/Manuals/tchg-pix.nfo:o:166.jpg

 (On back of picture)
Even when Jesus was being killed, he forgave those that hurt Him. Can we follow Jesus’ example and forgive those that do wrong things to us. They are nothing compared to what some did to the Savior.
How can we forgive someone like Jesus?

(On back of piece of clothing)
2 Nephi 31:16

"And now, my beloved brethren, I know by this that unless a man shall endure to the end, in following the example of the Son of the living God, he cannot be saved."

picture of Christ’s second coming Gospel Art kit 238 or

 (On back of picture)
We must follow the example of Jesus and keep going and be righteous to the last day. You live in a world that is much more difficult than when I was your age. You must be OXI CLEAN and hold onto Jesus to fight off Satan. He wants your clothes to get stained and we must do our best to stay clean. Ever heard the saying, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”?
What is one way we can stay spiritually clean? Let child hang clothing on line to dry

In closing, (written on back of Cheer detergent bottle) D&C 78:18…"be of good cheer, (Hold Cheer detergent up) for I will lead you along. The kingdom is yours and the blessings thereof are yours, and the riches of eternity are yours." I know that Jesus is always with you, wants you to be happy and have eternal life. If we follow His example, we will be able to make it back to Him. In the name of Jesus Christ amen.
