Millenium ST

Sharing Time- Jesus Christ will come again

We are going to talk about today when Jesus returns to earth and what it will be like during that time. Close your eyes for a second and imagine what it will be like when Jesus comes to earth. Keep those thoughts and we will see if you are right on some things.
Now I want you to listen, You will use this information in a game later.

*Before Jesus went up to Heaven, he told his apostles that He would go back to our Heavenly Father until the time of his second coming. When Jesus returns to the earth, where will he will come to? (a temple) and he will bring what is called the Millenium. The Millenium is the 1000 year period when Jesus will rule the earth. This will be a time of peace and Satan will have no power. Evil won’t have power. Wouldn’t it be nice not to be tempted to something wrong.

*I need to know about this picture. What are the two animals? Lion and lamb. Those are really different animals. Tell me about a lion? (large, dangerous)  What about a lamb? (cute, small, gentle) Which one would you rather meet face to face! _________ ,would you read what is written on the bottom. “How blessed the day when the lamb and the lion shall lie down together without any ire.” This is a line from the hymn Spirit of God. This line means that a day will come (meaning when Jesus comes)when there will be peace everywhere! Even animals won’t fight.

*We are going to play a game, if reverent that will help us learn what will happen during this 100 years of peace when Jesus rules the earth.
The lambs and lions are pinned up on opposite sides. Each lion and lamb has an event that will happen during the Millenium written on the back. Your team has to match up the correct lion and lamb to get control of those animals. The colors are to help the younger ones. So what are three events that will happen when Christ comes to the earth.
Game is from Primary Partners Sharing time Fun, Mary Ross

*We need to be thinking about when Jesus comes to the earth and be ready for Him. We need to be choosing the right all the time.

Wise Man/Foolish man ST

Sharing Time- The Wise Man and the Foolish Man Credit: sugardoodle.net(Melanie Day)

Theme for the month: Jesus Christ gave me agency and through Jesus Christ provided a way for me to repent and return to Him.

Objects Used/Preparation:
a large cake or casserole pan
a medium sized rock, with a flat surface
a small bowl filled with sand
2 lego houses (to represent a houses)
a pitcher full of water
Here are some legos and right on front is a model of what you can build with these. Do I have to build exactly what is here? Can't I choose to make any design that I can imagine? In fact, I want two people to come up and each quickly construct a house.
Agency is the ability to choose and not be forced to do something. Did I force you to build your house a certain way? Did I say, you must build it like this? No, I gave you a wise suggestion, but you all had the choice what to do with your blocks.

Lesson:
We are going to use these houses that you built to help discover why it is important to use your agency wisely or choose as Jesus would in all doings. We are going to read a story that was taught by Jesus called the wise man and the foolish man. Read Matthew 7:24-27 where the Lord likens a person who follows His words to a wise man who built his house upon a rock, and likens those who hears his sayings and won't do them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. When trial and adversity come, the man who wouldn't put the words he heard into practice is washed away, but the man who acted on what he heard, fell not. The wise man who listened to the words was not spared the storm (it hit him as hard as the foolish man), but when trial and adversity came, he was able to withstand them and not fall. He made good choices and because of that his house was fine. He used his agency wisely or made good choices. The foolish man made bad choices and didn’t use his agency wisely.

Put the empty casserole dish on the table so that all the children can see it. Then tip the small bowl with sand in it upside down inside the casserole dish to make something like a small sand island in the dish. (Don't worry if a little crumbles.) Place the medium size rock at the other end of the casserole dish. Then place the "house" on both the sand island and the rock. Pour the water on both of the houses and watch what happens. Remind the children that the house on the rock stayed much better than the house on the sand, just like in Jesus’ story.

Read also Helaman 5:12: "And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm• shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall."
We need to remember that Jesus Christ is the rock in this story and Satan is the sand. We want to build our life on the foundation of Jesus Christ (house on the rock and not build our life(house) on the sandy foundation of Satan. Jesus will always build us up and won’t let us fall like Satan will. Satan wants us to fall. Jesus will not only hold us up during the storm, but will ultimately save us when he comes again. He is the one that will pay for all the times we used our agency poorly or didn’t do what we know is right.
How can we build our life on the foundation of Jesus Christ? What should we be doing to make sure that our house is built on the rock and can weather the storm? listen at General Conference and put into practice something you learned; obey a bishop or parent's counsel; read the scriptures and apply those principles, etc)

Sharing Time:
Road signs back to our Father

February 2013
Theme: I have been sent to earth to gain a body and to be tested

From Ann Jamison, “Sharing Time: On the Right Path,” Friend, Jan. 2000, 44
use picture- pg 3 of    http://lds.org/churchmagazines/2003/Mar2003Friend.pdf

Have you ever gone on a long trip? How did you know which direction to go in to reach your destination? Did you follow a road map? Did you follow the road signs? These things can help us find our way when we travel here on earth.
All of us are on a very important journey—a journey back to our heavenly home.  Do you remember where our final destination is? Our destination is the celestial kingdom, where we can live with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Heavenly Father has provided a “map” to guide us as we travel back to Him. That map is The Plan of Salvation, or the Plan of Happiness. It is the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the Lord’s commandments are like road signs to help us reach our destination.
Heavenly Father trusts us to follow His plan on our journey through life. He planned that each of us would come to earth, gain a body, show that we would live gospel principles, and follow the example of His Son, Jesus Christ.
When we are baptized, it is the first sign or place on the map because we must be baptized to enter the celestial kingdom. And we must be baptized before we can receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost will help us choose the right and stay on the path.
Heavenly Father is pleased when we are baptized, because we are on the path that leads back to Him. But we can’t just stay at that sign. We won’t get to live with Jesus if we don’t keep moving forward. As we travel here on earth, we must watch carefully all along the road for the signs that tell us where to turn, when to stop, and when to be extra cautious. What happens if we don’t follow the signs on a map? We can get lost. Just like if we don’t follow Jesus’ signs, we can also get lost or sin. Then we have to find our way back to the right road by repenting or saying we are sorry for our mistake.
We are going to find some gospel road signs or the promises that we need to make after baptism.Just like if we are on a trip we need to follow the road signs to get to where we are going, we need to obey the gospel road signs to help us stay on the path to the celestial kingdom.
Let’s find the first gospel road sign. I will blindfold a helper and ask another to guide him or her to a certain road sign. Once they have found the sign we will read the clue or question that will help us find the correct matching picture.
(JUNIOR PRIMARY)- We will read some clues and find the matching road sign picture. (or could have the junior use the scriptures to locate the pictures depending on primary)
(SENIOR PRIMARY)-We will read the scripture clue and find the matching road sign picture. (This could be a combined sharing time/singing time where there are songs on some the back of the road signs).

Sharing time- I Can Be a Missionary Now! I Can Share the Gospel with my Family and Friends

****Have the missionaries assist with the beginning part of the lesson. Have the missionaries knock on the door. Sister Pergler opens it. Missionaries- “We are representatives of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and would like to share a special message with you” The missionaries are invited to come in and teach a little discussion about missionary work. 1) Remind what a missionary does daily and their experience as a missionary(last week's lesson). 2) One companion read Matthew 28:19–20 teaching their scripture to the “investigators”(Can use pictures of the World, Baptism, First Vision(Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ). 3) Other companion review Doctrine and Covenants 133:37 and remind that missionaries are one way that the gospel can be shared in distant lands. The Prophet David O. McKay taught us that “Every member can be a missionary” and that even means YOU!   Have a missionary bear testimony of the first vision     (only about 5 minutes for this discussion)

Scriptures-
Companion #1-Matthew 28:19 ¶ Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Companion #2-D&C 133: 37 And this gospel shall be preached unto every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people.

Sister Pergler’s part- So what opportunities do we have that we can share the gospel with those around us and be like these missionaries? Maybe we already have experiences with being a missionary to someone. Elder Quentin L. Cook, an apostle of the Lord shares a challenge- “My specific challenge to each of you is to make a commitment to be a missionary for the rest of your life.” He suggests three ways to help us be missionaries now. 1) Overcome feelings that make you afraid to share the gospel. 2) Do not be discouraged. 3) Be a good example and take every opportunity to share the gospel (ON FRIEND POSTER, April 2010. or pg. 11 of http://lds.org/churchmagazines/FR_2010_04_00___09264_000_000.pdf
http://lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?hideNav=1&locale=0&sourceId=e7fcf0a83a097210VgnVCM100000176f620a____&vgnextoid=21bc9fbee98db010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD
So I have doors that have opportunities on the back of them or ways that we can be a missionary and teach the gospel just like our visitors that came to see us. When called, knock on a door and we will open the door to the opportunity. Then we can figure out a way to be a missionary or tell of a time when you were a missionary in a similar way.

Have you ever prayed for someone to accept a church invite or the gospel?
Song:( “Praise to the Man, Hymns, no.27)

Door #9-(picture of Book of Mormon) Sharing the Book of Mormon is a wonderful way to be a missionary. Sharing stories, scriptures can help be a missionary. Has anyone ever had an experience with giving a Book of Mormon to someone or just has a special feeling about the precious book?
Song: ("Scripture Power")

Door #10- (picture of Jesus Christ) When we act like Jesus, we are sharing the gospel sometimes without even knowing we are doing it. When was a time when you were a good example? Has anyone ever told someone about Joseph Smith and the first vision? (show picture of first vision) How did you feel hearing the testimony of the missionary of that sacred event? Inspire you to want to share your testimony?
Song: ("If I Listen with My Heart", p. 28 of 2011 Sharing Time outline)

I hope you will accept Elder Cook's challenge and will be a missionary for the rest of your life. I say these things, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Ten Commandments Sharing Time

We are Blessed When We Keep the Ten Commandments
September 2012 - Week 1

Keep the Commandments, Bowl a Strike in Life Sharing time
Anyone know what bowling is?  “Seventeen hundred years ago bowling was a religious ceremony in Germany.  In those days if a person bowled the ball and knocked a pin down, he was leading a good life.  But if he did not knock a pin down, it meant that he needed to be better.” http://www.lds.org/friend/1975/02/how-bowling-began
The goal in modern bowling is to keep the bowling ball on the lane for the entire length and hit as many of the ten pins as possible.  If the bowler knocks all the pins down on the first ball it is considered a strike.  That is the best you can do! http://www.helium.com/items/853781-basic-bowling-rules
We are going to play a game of bowling today and learn about the Ten Commandments.  Each pin will represent a commandment or one of God’s rules that was revealed to the prophet Moses; from God to us. (show picture http://www.lds.org/gospellibrary/artbook/images/ArtBook__014_014__TheTenCommandments_Sm___.jpg )
These Ten Commandments, if we follow them, will help us lead a good and happy life.  So for our bowling activity, when we knock down a pin, it will represent that we have conquered that commandment.  Our goal is to conquer all Ten Commandments, to bowl a strike each day and reach our goal of celestial glory.

(Point to large bowling ball on board. The bowling ball was cut from a black trash bag and the circle categories were taped on)

If you look at a bowling ball, use your imagination, haha!, there are three holes on it.  The ten-commandments can be separated into three categories.  RESPECT AND WORSHIP GOD, HONOR PARENTS, RESPECT OTHERS (each category is written inside one of the three holes on the bowling ball)
We will invite one of you to come up and roll this bowling ball down the lane to the ten pins. Your goal is conquer all the commandments (to knock over all the pins).

After you’ve bowled, we will choose one of the commandments that you have conquered (select one pin you have knocked down) and learn about it.  There is an object and information inside each pin to help us learn more.  Some pins also have a song that we will sing and decide which one of the three categories it should fit in.  We will continue until we have conquered all Ten Commandments. (Bowling pins were made from empty water bottles that have been cut in half.
Remove water bottle top half so that the objects can be inserted in the “pin”, replace top. Source for craft http://www.creativedish.com/2011/08/lets-bowl-make-a-bowling-pin-set-from-recycled-plastic-water-bottles/)

*if time is running short, open a couple of conquered pins on the same roll.  Note: For each pin conquered and commandment is learned, remove the pin from the lane.
Commandment pins-
